GfK research reveals skyrocketing mobile web habits

The firm’s new ‘Network Intelligence Solution’ provides insights into daily usage of mobile internet among 200,000 consumers in three European countries.
Its main findings are that mobile internet activity naturally takes off in the morning and by 10am high traffic is visible.
The peak occurs just before 4.30pm as people leave to return home from the workplace.
However, usage can differ drastically within minutes. For example, 7.45am can have up to 30-40 per cent more traffic than at 7.15am on the same day.

The smartphone has made all the difference, of course, with those big screens and full wed browsers bringing the fixed web to users on the go.

Among the up to 24 average web sites visits per day, most are to traditional websites and not mobile specific sites.
The Top 50 websites only constitute about 40 per cent of all visits, with Facebook popular everywhere.
Indeed, there are some areas where Facebook is pretty much the only site visited, and there are some users who visit only the Facebook site.
